By now, you must have seen this video:
If you haven't, I'll explain what happened. Obviously, some kid who appears to be about 14 was fake gang banging on his Facebook page. Well, his uncle saw what was going on and decided to interrupt his webcam to teach the young man a lesson by whipping him with a belt.
And the ignorant reactions to this video have really pissed me off. Folks were laughing, cheering the uncle on and reminiscing about their childhood beatings. Surprisingly, none of them noticed that the uncle needed a beating himself.
First, the uncle is shirtless and saggin (not wearing a belt, exposing his underwear). Plus, the uncle thinks that one public beating will be enough to change his nephew's ways. If the nephew has been hanging with the wrong crowd, he is not getting the love he needs from home.
That's the problem with some in the black community. We think whoopings solve everything. They don't. I have a few older brothers who got whooped and all that did was harden them to the streets. A couple of them joined gangs anyway. And the two of us who were whipped the least--my younger brother and I--ended up with the most education.
But I'm not saying you shouldn't whip your kids. However, you should explain to them what THEY DID WRONG and evaluate what YOU DID WRONG. Sometimes, even the best parents can miss key areas of a child's development.
I really hope that uncle sits down and talks to his nephew in the next video...or I'M COMING WITH MY BELT! (Just kidding)
